Healthcare rights of migrants
Asylum seekers: Access to health care is provided for asylum seekers as part of the reception conditions. It covers essential medical services and other free medical services provided to legally residing third country nationals.
Asylum seekers have a right to examinations and treatment by general practitioners, but all specialised treatment conducted in polyclinics and hospitals is free only in case of emergency and upon referral by a general practitioner.
Asylum seekers have access to a general physician in the town of Vámosszabadi several times per week and to nurses daily, and there is an Arabic speaking social worker who assists with the translation.
Refugees: Have access to the national health system, which is covered by the Social Security scheme, under the same conditions as Hungarian citizens.
Undocumented migrants: Can access emergency care free of charge.
HIV testing and treatment
Testing: Free for all, except rapid tests, and tests that are performed for work permits or visas. It is anonymous within NGOs. Use the aidsmap European test finder to see where you can get tested for HIV.
We will update this as organisations consent to be included.
